Yolanda Germain, 98, of San Jose, passed away July 6, 2019. She was born to the late Vittorio and Clothide Cangiamila, May 17, 1921, in San Jose, California. Yolanda was the youngest sister of the late Carl Cangie, Helen LaGrande, and Rudy Cangie. She graduated from Notre Dame Catholic High School in 1938 and received a Baccalaureate in General Elementary Music from the San Jose State College (which evolved into San Jose State University) in 1943. Yolanda has always resided in San Jose, raising three children from her first marriage to Philip Gillham in 1952. Yolanda later married Richard Germain on March 22, 1969. Yolanda is survived by three children: David Gillham-Germain, of San Jose; Mark Gillham, of Paso Robles; and Susan McDowell, of Santa Clara. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Yolanda was an elementary school teacher and accomplished musician, playing piano since childhood for her church and later for school productions and occasionally family gatherings. She passed her appreciation of music on to her children and grandchildren, a couple of whom became professional musicians. Yolanda was immensely proud of her family, and instilled in three generations the importance and meaning of family. A mass will be said for Yolanda at St Christopher's Church, 2278 Booksin Ave. San Jose, CA 95125 on September 8th at 11:00 a.m. The choir has been asked to perform one of her favorite compositions Ave Maria by Franz Schubert, in her honor. Her family will be celebrating her life and interning her ashes in Paso Robles at a future date. In lieu of sending flowers, the family suggests donations may be made in her name to St. Jude's Hospital or Catholic Charities, two of Yolanda's favorite charities.
