Richard Sussmeier

October 4, 1944 ~ November 10, 2021 (age 77)


Richard (Rick) Sussmeier, son of Richard and Ruth (Remsbecker) Sussmeier passed away suddenly on November 10, 2021 at the age of 77 years.  Born into a military family Rick lived in many places, including Germany and graduated from high school in Okinawa.  Rick enlisted in the Army after graduating from St. John’s Univ., NY.  He was honorably discharged from the Army as a Capt. and a pilot, flying OV-1 Mohawk twin engine turboprop aircraft.  He served as a Military Intelligence Officer in Korea and flew night reconnaissance missions in Vietnam.  Rick owned several businesses and race horses throughout the years and retired as a proposition poker player at the Bay 101 card club in San Jose, CA.  He was preceded in death by his mother, father, sister Regina Scott and niece Julie Scott.  He is survived by his sisters, Karen Harman and Barbara Baum along with 7 nieces and nephews.  Rick had a big heart and a great sense of humor. He was a proud veteran and enjoyed attending OV-1 Mohawk Association reunions.  He gave regularly to Wounded Warriors and the Humane Society.  Rick will be greatly missed.  A funeral mass will be held on Monday, November 29 at the St. Bonaventure Chapel, 5562 Clayton Rd, Concord, CA.  There will be a light lunch and celebration of life immediately following at the home of Barbara and Robert Baum, 9005 Elk Dr, Clayton, CA.  Interment will be Tuesday, November 30 at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Rd, Dixon, CA with full Military Honors.
