Nellie M LagunaSeptember 16, 1920 ~ January 6, 2019 (age 98)
Nellie Laguna was born September 16, 1920 in Jerome, Arizona and passed away peacefully on January 6, 2019 in San Jose, California at the age of 98. Nellie was one of 16 children born to Juana Jimenez and Hermenejildo Munoz.
Nellie was independent and resourceful, as a teenager she created a way to earn extra money by laminating social security cards with copper as a way to protect them. Her Father would drive her from county to county to pick up orders and then to deliver the cards.
Nellie ran a licensed daycare in her home for many years. She also worked in The Foster Grandparent Program at Chandler Tripp School where she enjoyed caring for children with special needs. In her leisure time, she enjoyed watching Novelas, doing arts and crafts, crocheting and sewing. Many of her one of a kind crocheted ponchos and hats were worn by her granddaughter, Emily, during her childhood. Nellie enjoyed helping others, talking on the phone with her sisters, Natalia and Lena who live in Southern California, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Nellie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Natividad Laguna and son, Rene’ Laguna. Nellie is survived by her daughter, Deena Mora and son-In-law, Jose Mora, grand-daughter, Emily (Marcus) Mora, and grandsons Travis Laguna, David and Gary (Patty) Mora and six great grandchildren, Leticia, Jessica (Shawn), Gordon, Nicholas, Conor and Jillian, great-great grandsons, Patrick and Mickey, her sisters, Natalia Cuaron and Lena Ycedo and her brother Alfredo Munoz, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Nellie was beloved by many and will be missed by her family and friends. May she rest in the peace of the Lord’s loving embrace.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to all those who have supported us during this time of loss.
