Martha Reckers ImwalleMarch 31, 1939 ~ November 11, 2017 (age 78)
Martha Reckers Imwalle passed away peacefully on early Saturday morning. Martha was surrounded by her adoring family. She was born in Sacramento, CA. She graduated from St Francis High School and attended Lone Mountain College for Women in San Francisco, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts. Martha married her husband Henry (Hank) in 1961. They moved to Yuma, AZ for two years immediately after they were married where Hank worked for a produce grower. They returned to San Jose to work for the family business, Imwalle Vegetable Gardens. She took great pride in her children and all of her grandchildren, She loved to travel to Europe and especially Hawaii. Her favorite place was Carmel where she spent a lot of time in her youth in the house that her grandparents built.
She was always involved volunteering in the children’s schools, Most Holy Trinity Grammar School, Presentation High School and Bellarmine College Preparatory. She also volunteered as store manager at the Youth Science Institute Thrift Store.
Martha was a member of the Ladies of Charity and Hillcresters. She and Hank have been members of the San Jose Country Club for many years.
She was a great friend to many and cherished by her family. She had great whit to the very end. She was an excellent cook and terrific party hostess. She maintained a very strong faith in God.
Martha is survived by her loving husband, Hank; devoted children Michael Imwalle (Terri) of Ojai, CA, Peter Imwalle (Lindsay) of Rolling Hills Estates, CA, Joan Imwalle Gorman of Somerset, England, and Patty Imwalle Gfroerer (Tom) of Austin, TX, grandchildren, Claire and Matthew Imwalle, Tristan and Grace Gorman and Lauren, Brian and Zachary Gfroerer, step-grandchildren, Diegas (Jessica) and Gamiel (Rebecca) Zavala, and step great-grandchildren, Isei, Evia, Milena and Ayin Zavala. She is also survived by her sister Mary Reckers Devereux of Roseville, CA. Martha is preceded in death by her father Judge Stanley W. Reckers, her mother Katharine Geary Reckers and her brother, William Geary Reckers.
She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
