Manuel Francisco Ribeiro passed away on Monday due to cardiac arrest. He was a patient man who touched many lives with his gentle spirit and generosity.
Manuel was born in Pico, Acores, Portugal. After serving in the military in Portugal, he emigrated to Canada in 1955 with only $5 in his pocket and his luggage. A year later he came to California for a visit with his Aunt. He ended up finding his first love Janet Yvonne Silva who became his wife and remained in California where he built his life. Manuel bought his first home in San Jose with his wife Janet and they had three children. They decided to upgrade their home to something larger to build their family. After having their fourth child, Janet became ill and passed away suddenly, leaving four young children in Manuel’s care. With the help of family and friends Manuel made it through this difficult time. All the while he was working hard as a Cement Mason, his life-long trade until he retired in 1993. He then married his current wife Adelina Ribeiro and had his fifth child. Manuel was finally able to buy his dream ranch in Morgan Hill in 1979, where he lived the remainder of his life. He was also able to build an ocean front home on his native island where he enjoyed vacationing after his retirement. Manuel is survived by his loving wife Adelina; devoted children Brigitte Rodriguez of Morgan Hill, Daniel Ribeiro (Stacey) of San Jose, Alfred Ribeiro (Dawn) of Manteca, Lisa Silveira (Richie) of Morgan Hill, Nuno Ribeiro (Carla) of Morgan Hill, eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Maria Sousa and Angelina Ribeiro of Canada, sisters Silvina Avila and Marilda Cardoso of Palo Alto and Alzira Carapinha of Los Banos. His generous loving spirit will be missed by all who knew him.
