Leonora “Nene” Melliza-Lujan, age 90, passed away peacefully in the early hours of November 18th 2021, at Kaiser Permanente in San Jose, CA.
Leonora was born on September 4, 1931 in Pasay City, Manila, Philippines to Mateo Melliza and Margarita Dela Peña. She is the fourth child in a family of seven children. Leonora grew up always surrounded by her large family and was influenced to be a loving and caring woman, always giving her time to others. She married Teodorico Escober Sr., and welcomed three handsome sons and two beautiful daughters, who were the most important part of her life. After 17 years of marriage they separated and she raised her children as a single parent. Her siblings petitioned her to reside in California in 1983 and she decided to work as a caregiver for 20 years. Then she met Wilfredo Lujan, the two fell in love instantly, and she got married a second time. When Leonora found out she was going to be a grandmother, she was absolutely thrilled about her family growing even bigger and decided to retire to take care of her grandchildren. In her free time, Leonora loved watching Tagalog movies and cooking. She also had a passion for flowers and gardening. She often could be found tending to her luscious garden filled with numerous flower beds, her beloved rose bushes, orchids and a bountiful vegetable garden.
Leonora is survived by her five children; David Escober, Mirna Escober, Albert Escober, Oric Escober, and Liza Escober Kahoday. Along with daughters-in-law; Rosario Escober, Edith Escober and Helen Escober; son-in-law Doddie Kahoday, 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and numerous great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mateo Melliza and Margarita Dela Peña; husband, Wilfredo Lujan; five brothers, Manuel Melliza, Bernabe Melliza, Carlos Melliza, Buenaventura Melliza and Mateo Jr. Melliza and sister, Divina Melliza.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service gathering on Saturday December 4th from 2-7pm at the Darling & Fischer Garden Chapel located at 471 E. Santa Clara St., San Jose, CA. Her final destination will be in Manila, Philippines where another service will take place for additional family and friends.
