Cmde. Jacob Abraham, second son of V.G Abraham and Thankamma Abraham, was born on May 5, 1947 in his home town of Trivandrum, Kerala. He completed his schooling from Govt. Model School, Trivandrum. Jacob, affectionately known to his family and friends as Thampy, then went to complete his degree in telecommunications from the College of Engineering, Trivandrum.
He was accepted by the Indian Navy in 1970 and served in the electrical branch. He was stationed in Delhi, Bombay, and Cochin during his time in the Navy. In 1973 he joined forces with his lifelong partner, Susan. After 25 years of serving his country and raising two children, he retired from the Indian Navy to his hometown of Trivandrum, highly decorated and with the rank of Commodore.
In 2001, Jacob and Susan decided to pack their suitcases yet again and moved to Virginia, USA. The 14 years he spent in the US were filled with many friends and family, visiting him from around the world. During that time, Jacob was a founding member of the St. Mary’s Indian Orthodox Church of Northern Virginia.
It was there that Jacob and Susan caught the travel bug and wanted to explore many more countries. Jacob retired from his professional career in 2014. Soon after, they moved back to India and continued travelling to various places, enjoying all the lovely sights and sounds.
Everyone knows Jacob as a happy, jovial, and trusting friend; he will be dearly missed by all. Jacob is survived by his wife, Susan; two children, Abraham and Nita; and four grandchildren, Rachael, Rebecca, Aaron and Alan.
We find comfort in knowing that his last few days were spent with family, in a beautiful and scenic place, doing all the things he loved to do.
