George S. Bettencourt passed away on Saturday the 30th of November due to complications related to pulmonary fibrosis.
George was born in the Azores Islands of Portugal and immigrated to California at the age of 22 where he married Doris Dias. He later returned to his homeland with his family for several years and eventually back to California where he worked and retired from the Santa Clara Unified School District. He was a member of S.F.V.D.E.S. of Mountain View, Our Lady of Fatima, Mountain View, and The Brotherhood of Saint Anthony in Tracy. His passion was family and gardening, and he gave both his upmost dedication.
George is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Doris, and devoted children, Deolinda (Gary) Ramirez, Vitória (Joseph) Rose, George (Joy) Bettencourt, Bernadette (Rene) Salinas, and Luis Bettencourt, as well as grandchildren James and David Costa, Monique and Olivia Rose, Ryan and Brittany Bettencourt, Brianna and Natalie Salinas, and one great-grandchild, Callie Costa. He is also survived by siblings, Vitória, Albert, Maria E., Luis, Filomena, and Mary, and numerous nieces and nephews. Late brother of Miguel, Aldina, Artur, and Joe. His generous loving spirit will be missed by all who knew him.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Monday, December 9, 2019, beginning at 3:00 PM with Rosary at 7:00 PM at Darling & Fischer Garden Chapel, 471 E. Santa Clara Street, San Jose. Visitation also on Tuesday, December 10, from 8:00 to 9:00 AM at Darling & Fischer Garden Chapel followed by Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Victor Catholic Church, 3108 Sierra Road, San Jose. Interment following Mass at Calvary Catholic Cemetery at 2650 Madden Ave, San Jose.
