Our family is heartbroken to share that Antonio Toste passed away at age 78 in West Linn, Oregon after struggling with Lewy Body Dementia over the last few years of his life. We are grateful that he is now at peace and will miss him dearly.
Antonio Drumonde Toste was born on March 18, 1945 in the village of Sao Sebastiao, on the island of Terceira in the Azores, Portugal. After being deployed and serving in the Portuguese Army, he married his soulmate Maria de Fatima da Rocha Melo Toste on October 5th, 1969. They immigrated to the U.S. in 1970 and made their home in San Jose, California where they raised their children Delia and David who he was fiercely proud of. Antonio worked at International Paper for over 25 years, making many lifelong friendships there before the plant closed, and then spent 10 years working for Kaiser Permanente where he was a favorite amongst staff and anyone who met him before he retired. He was an amazing husband, inseparable from his wife, and loved being a grandfather to his three grandchildren Chloe, Mia, and Jake who were the center of his world. He was an amazing husband, father, godfather, uncle, great uncle, and friend to all. A selfless man who spent many years assisting his wife in the care of her parents, and then the care of his great aunt and uncle.
He loved his RV and camping trips to Half Moon Bay, Festas and conversations with friends, but his most favorite place in this world was Porto Martins on the island of Terceira where he and his wife would spend summers once retired. He had hoped to spend many more summers there in their golden years. His last visit to Porto Martins was the summer of 2022 and we are so grateful he was able to enjoy his happy place one last time.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jose Cardoso Toste & Maria Josefa Toste, his brother Jose Alves Toste, and his sister Maria Josefa Neves (Joao Neves-deceased). He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Maria de Fatima Toste and his children Delia DeVere (David) of San Jose, CA and David Toste (Karen) of West Linn, OR., grandchildren Chloe DeVere, Mia Toste and Jake Toste. He is also survived by his brothers Joao Toste (Conceicao-deceased) and Francisco Toste (Teresa) of Mississauga, Canada, Brother in law Joao DeMelo (Fatima-deceased) Gilroy, CA and Sister in law Eulalia Martins (Antonio- deceased) of Sacramento, CA and many godchildren, nephews and nieces.
